Manchester United began the 2009/2010 Barclays Premier League campaign with a win over newly-promoted Birmingham City. Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game on the 33rd minute.
The defending champions joined, among others, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City who registered their wins on the first day of the new campaign. Liverpool lost away at Tottenham Hotspurs.
