On the eve of the day when Manchester United could win this season's Premier League, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez declared that the title race was not over yet. He even tried to fire up Arsenal players by challenging them to beat Manchester United. Knowing the animosity that exists between the top four clubs, I tried hard to see how the Gunners would be motivated by his call and I somehow do not think they would be. True that Arsenal have nothing to play for and the novelty of beating the eventual Champions might spur them on, but even if that single point is not won tonight at Old Trafford, there is still another chance next week for Manchester United when they visit relegation-threatened Hull City. It would quite unthinkable that Manchester United fail to win a single point, but it will not happen. And Rafa seems to forget that Liverpool may still lose any of the remaining two games; tomorrow night against West Bromwich Albion and next week against a much tougher opponent in the form of Tottenham Hotspurs.
All I could say now to Rafa is.... please accept defeat graciously and give credit where credit is due. There is no point rueing missed chances or unfortunate injury. And better luck next year. And yeah, we've now matched your 18 league title record!
