Pusat Ehsan Charity Bazaar

On Sunday, I joined a few friends to check out the Charity Bazaar, organised by Pusat Ehsan. This is the second consequtive year that such event was organised. The main objective of the event was to raise fund, which would be used to fund the Centre.

Pusat Ehsan is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation which provides a place for special needs individuals to learn. It spends about B$30,000 per month on the running of the Centre and it depends largely on contributions from private companies, groups and individuals, as well as Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

The Charity Bazaar was launched by Princess Azeemah, the Patron of the Centre. More than 50 booths were set up, offering games, raffle draws, food, garage sales and collectible items. Pilihan FM set up a mini studio and it even aired live from Pusat Ehsan. There were also face painting for kids and those who were kids at heart, massage services and bike rides. During the event, BLNG managed to raise B$2000 for Pusat Ehsan; read about it here.

One particular area that attracted a lot of punters to the Bazaar was this particular room where hundreds of pairs footwear were being sold. At a glance, one might be forgiven to think that these footwear were of no particular interest. Some people even thought they were fake branded footwear. However, we were told that the footwear actually belonged to Princess Azeemah and her mother and they had kindly donated the footweat to be sold and the proceeds were to go to Pusat Ehsan. It was little wonder that the footwear were of high-end brands (such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Patrick Cox, Escada, etc) and they seemed to have been worn only once or twice. The footwear were to be sold initially via sealed bids and at the end of the day, any remaining footwear would be open for sale.
